Jeni’s Introduces Sunshine Ice Cream in a Surprising Color
The Ohio artisan ice cream maker is releasing a new flavor with a positive message.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams—known for creative flavors that change seasonally—just launched a new “Sunshine” flavor designed to look the opposite of how it tastes.
“The color is muted, gray, kind of how this year has felt so far,” the Ohio-based company said. “But when you eat it, the flavor bursts into sunny citrus and tropical fruit on your palate, like an actual ray of sunshine... a reminder that when gray clouds descend on our lives, the sun always shines again.”
Jeni’s said that when they were creating the flavor earlier this year, inspired by Depressed Cake Shop and in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month (May), they had no idea of what was going to happen in the world over the next couple of months.
“We thought about not releasing it, but then realized that while the nature of the world has changed, the message is still the same,” Jeni’s said. “That when gray clouds descend on our lives, the sun always shines again.”
Other flavors recently introduced include Skillet Cinnamon Roll, Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, Dairy-Free Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns and Raspberry Rose Jelly Donut.
In its May/June 2020 issue, Midwest Living highlighted Jeni’s frosé sorbet —a frozen treat with a silky texture from pear and blush hue from melon, berries and rosé.
Jeni’s flavors are available at supermarkets, scoop shops and by mail order at jenis.com.
