In a blender container or food processor bowl, combine garlic, basil, Parmesan cheese, parsley, and pine nuts or walnuts. Cover and blend or process with several on/off turns until a paste forms.
With machine running slowly, gradually add olive oil and blend or process to the consistency of soft butter. Refrigerate or freeze until ready to use.
Thaw, if frozen. Add to hot pasta, potato salad, or scrambled eggs. Makes 1 cup (enough for 12 pounds pasta).
