In a large skillet, cook sausage, sweet pepper, and onion until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain fat. Add cream cheese pieces, stirring with a wooden spoon until cream cheese is melted and mixture is well combined. Keep warm.
Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a greased baking sheet. Carefully pinch together the perforations and press the dough into a 13x9-inch rectangle. Spoon the sausage mixture lengthwise down the center of the dough, making a 3-inch-wide strip.
On both long sides of dough rectangle, make 2-1/2-inch cuts from edge toward center, spacing the cuts 1 inch apart. Starting at one end and alternating from side to side, fold and twist the dough strips at an angle over the filling, giving pastry a ladder like appearance.
Bake sausage roll in a 375 degree F oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm. Makes 6 servings.
