In a mixing bowl, combine the 2 cups flour, the 1/2 cup sugar, the baking powder, and salt.
Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in egg. Press half the mixture into an 11x7x1-1/2-inch or 9x9x2-inch baking pan.
Stir together the 6 tablespoons sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, and cinnamon. Toss lightly with apples to combine. Layer the apple mixture evenly atop the crust. Sprinkle with the remaining flour mixture.
Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until lightly golden. Serve the bars warm with ice cream, if you like. Makes 15 bars.
