For the crust, in a large bowl, combine the flour, the 2 tablespoons sugar, and the salt. Cut in lard or shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Mix in the cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, to form a ball.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out 2/3 of the dough to form a 12-inch square. Ease into an 8x8x2-inch baking dish. Roll out the remaining 1/3 of dough to form a 10-inch square. Set aside.
In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, combine the 1-1/2 cups sugar and the cornstarch. Add 1/2 of theblackberries. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Fold in the remaining berries. Turn into prepared baking dish. Top with butter. Add top crust. Seal and flute to edge of dish. Cut slits in top crust. Brush crust with milk and sprinkle with additional sugar.
Bake the cobbler in a 350 degree F oven for about 35 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Cool on a wire rack for 1 to 2 hours. Serve warm with ice cream. Makes 8 servings.
