Midwest Living Review
Locals agree that you'll find Horicon's best Friday fish fry at The Rock River Tap. It's hard to argue with their assessment. The bar serves cod, perch and walleye -- baked or deep fried -- for $8.95-$12.95. The price includes coleslaw, rye bread, and your choice of French fries or potato salad. A breaded fantail shrimp dinner (seven pieces) is also available. The fish is simply delicious -- light, flavorful, with no sign of the puddles of grease you often find at fish fries. Ditto for the fries.Unfortunately, Rock River falls short in its alcoholic beverage offerings. Because The Rock River Tap is a bar, you'd assume it would have fairly extensive, quality offerings. While the beer selection is adequate, the bar serves just three or four low-brow types of wine out of tiny, airline-sized bottles. And its old-fashioneds (Wisconsin's signature cocktail) are mediocre at best. There is also no organized fashion for escorting customers to the dining area and getting their name on a list for the next table -- customers have to guess where to go and what to do, or ask other customers.Despite these two disappointments, The Rock River Tap is still worth it. The fish simply can't be beat.
