The Cedarburg General Store Museum

Have a fondness for the good old days? Then a stop at the Cedarburg General Store Museum is a must. The museum is housed in an 1862 structure that's one of the oldest buildings on Washington Avenue, Cedarburg's main drag. It once held an A&P, and it still sports its original tin ceiling, which is in excellent condition. So it's the perfect location for the museum, which has an extraordinary story behind it. All of the items in the museum once belonged to the late Roger Christensen, a Cedarburg resident who amassed this incredibly large and diverse collection of mercantile items as a tribute to his dad, who had been a Green Bay grocer. Now in the museum, they're separated into two rooms. The main room is arranged as an old-time general store and features shelves and cabinets lined with food, medicine, hardware, automotive supplies and clothing. The smaller, adjacent room sports re-created storefronts filled with changing themed displays—toys or a holiday, for example. Museum staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, perhaps because the general store museum also serves as the local tourism information desk (yes, you can pick up maps and brochures here). There's no fee to enter, but donations are appreciated.
