Midwest Living Review
Once we arrived at The Abbey, we didn't want to leave. And at this famous A-framed, nautical-themed lakefront resort on Lake Geneva, we didn't have to: The Abbey anticipates and fulfills guests' every need. Hungry? The Fontana Grill offers upscale steaks and seafood, and The Waterfront serves up casual burgers and bar food. Restless? We wandered the 90-acre grounds and gawked at all the water sports at the marina (boat tours, ski school, parasailing, wave runners and more). We also spotted places to play volleyball, disc golf, or heard a band playing at The Waterfront. Stressed? We kicked back at the pool (there are two: one indoor, one outdoor) then perused the offerings at the Avani spa: facials, massages and luxurious body scrubs all sounded enticing. The family-friendly Abbey also offers an arcade, board games, a kids' craft room and fun events, like roasting s'mores around a campfire. But the resort isn't just about the activities: The rooms were perfect. Surrounded by windows, they all have a door leading to an outside landing, decor featuring exposed beams and nautical art, and a bed so comfortable that we wanted to take it home. A $40 million renovation in 2005 is to thank for the updated, spacious quarters. And located just 90 minutes from Chicago and 45 minutes from Milwaukee, The Abbey is easily accessible. The resort has a wonderful reputation, and after a visit, we agree it's well-deserved.
