Midwest Living Review
Sitting about half a mile from Lake Geneva's bustling shoreline, Simple Cafe serves creative (and delicious) breakfast and lunch fare that emphasizes local, seasonal, sustainable ingredients. The chic, sleek interior showcases sunny shades of orange, lime and yellow warmed with hardwood floors. During nice weather, customers can sit outside on the spacious, mostly shaded patio.
The breakfast menu is heavy on egg-based choices: eggs Benedict, Spanish tortillas, and savory Korean pancakes—pureed mung beans, shaved kimchee, pork shoulder, rice flour and green onions topped with a fried egg and sesame soy sauce ($8.95). Designer omelets ($9.75) let diners choose three items from a gourmet list that includes Andouille sausage, caramelized onions, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts and artichokes. The apple crumble French toast ($9.25), pumpkin pancakes and granola are likewise popular options. The lunch menu segues into the area of equally innovative sandwiches, soups and salads. To drink? Try the tangerine-ginger iced tea or one of a half-dozen or so Sprecher sodas.
Given the fantastic food and the vibrant decor, Simple Café is usually packed. Pleasantly, service remains friendly and efficient.
