Midwest Living Review

Beth Probst
One of Wisconsin's most beloved outdoor destinations, Peninsula State Park offers a picturesque setting and year-round recreation.

Stick to the shoreline or head into the woods? Both options appeal at the 3,776-acre Peninsula State Park. Beautifully positioned on Green Bay, this is deservedly one of the most popular destinations in Door County and one of Wisconsin's most-frequented state parks.

Even in the quiet winter season, there's plenty to do and see. Whoosh down Hill 17, a popular golf course hole transformed into a sledding mecca when the snow flies. Or climb the fire tower for views stretching across the frozen lake to offshore islands. A spin along Shore Drive might reward visitors with vistas of “ice shove,” jagged piles of busted ice shimmering in subtle shades of blue, green and white. Snowmobilers rev up for action on 18 miles of trails, but many visitors opt for the quieter 16-mile stretch of cross-country ski terrain winding through hemlock, birch and wetlands. In warm weather, guests take advantage of 468 campsites, a summer theater, bike trails, golf and eight miles of Door County's lovely shoreline.
