Midwest Living Review

Called Milwaukee's Arts and Fashion District, the Third Ward is fun and easy to browse.

Set in the old warehouse district, the Third Ward is anchored by the Milwaukee Public Market and home to the Broadway Theatre Center, the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, condominiums, offices, shops, bars and more. It's a truly mixed-use community, and the inclusion of several artistic centers has added a trendy, fun feel to the revamped neighborhood. It's handy to the downtown, too, just a few blocks south.During the holidays, the Third Ward becomes a holiday shopping hotspot. Early in December, the neighborhood celebrates with a tree lighting, complete with live music, reindeer, dancers, fireworks and Santa's gingerbread house. Catch a horse-drawn carriage as it jingles up Broadway and stop at Broadway Paper for holiday wrapping tips and tricks, including graceful ways to wrap odd-shaped items. The Third Ward is fun to visit with friends and family; finish your excursion at Joey Buona's, where the gargantuan pizzas and pasta portions are meant to be shared.
