Midwest Living Review
Ian's is famous among Madison circles for its New York-style pizza—huge, thin, foldable slices weeping with cheesy toppings that slide right down your chin upon first bite.
The ingredients of the signature mac ‘n cheese pizza ($10.50 for a 12-inch) are a closely guarded secret. With freshly grated cheeses, macaroni noodles and creme fraiche atop Ian's crispy, chewy crust, this gooey pie is a dream dish for pasta and pizza connoisseurs. For purists, Ian's stockpiles delicious toppings and sauces so you can have your old-school pepperoni or sausage just the way you like it. Build your own 12- or 20-inch pies, or choose from two dozen specialty pizzas. Ian's visits farmers markets twice a week for fresh veggies, and 90 percent of its dairy is locally sourced.
Adventurous pizza denizens will never grow bored here with the weekly rotating specials, some of which sound downright insane. Think hypercreative concoctions like fish fry pizza, California burger pizza, and BBQ steak and ribs pizza complete with crinkle-cut French fries. Best of all, prices are affordable. Large slices of cheese and pepperoni are just $2.50, specialty slices $3.50; 12-inch pizzas start at $8.50, 20-inch $13. Ian's State Street location is superb, less than a block off the Capitol Square with cafe seating outside and plenty of booths inside.
