Midwest Living Review

The Kohler Design Center is a one-stop history, museum, gallery and product showcase for the company and the town of Kohler alike.

This 35,000-plus-square-foot facility is both a showcase of new products and homage to the old, and it's a must-see. Split into three levels, the 35-foot-high ceiling on the main floor shelters all of the latest Kohler tubs, sinks, toilets, showers, fixtures and more, featuring dozens of Kohler brands including Ann Sacks, Kallista, Robern, Baker Furniture, McGuire Furniture and even Kohler Power Systems (think lawnmower hanging from the ceiling). Touch the products, measure them, take pictures, make plans, it's all possible here. There is even a wall with sample shower tile magnets, so that you can arrange and rearrange when puzzling out your shower design. The lower level of the building houses a gallery featuring Kohler Company art residents and a really impressive museum packed with artifacts and stories of both company and town. Snag one of the knowledgeable tour guides; it takes about an hour to walk through, and it's more than worth your time. We especially love the wall of color samples from Kohler tubs over the decades (anybody miss that 1983 burnt sienna?). Finally, on the third floor, see the Kohler products in homelike settings with vignette after vignette of different bath and kitchen scenes, all professionally designed. Plan to spend at least an entire afternoon here, reminiscing and dreaming alike. The Kohler Design Center is open every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas, and it's free to the public.
