Midwest Living Review

Kendra L. Williams
Great service and huge portions define this nothing-fancy local favorite in an older part of Green Bay.

We decided to skip buying a hotel breakfast during our trip to Green Bay and follow in the footsteps of many Trip Advisor reviewers who raved that The Pancake Place is an excellent, not-to-be-missed breakfast destination. We wouldn't necessarily agree with that assessment: It's a solid, friendly place with relatively good breakfast food served all day, as well as affordable lunches and dinners (think all-you-can eat broasted chicken and spaghetti on the weekends). The servers are friendly, calling the regulars by name when they didn't call them "Hon," and you get plenty of food for your money (including an entire cup of whipped butter to go with your pancakes). Our food arrived fast, fresh and warm. So that's all good.

The Pancake Place serves 21 kinds of pancakes, plus eggs, omelets, French toast and Belgian waffles. We tried the cranberry and apple pancake, a $2.85 whopper that actually hangs over the edge of the dinner plate it comes on. And it tasted OK. Just OK. The bacon wasn't as crispy as we'd like and the coffee was watery, but it was a quick way to fill up on a cold morning. Would we drive across town again when we could've bought some fruit and a muffin in our hotel? Probably not. But if you love family-owned diners like these, you'll enjoy the overall experience.
