Midwest Living Review

Warm and cozy, this great steakhouse encourages guests to take their time to savor steaks and more.

Despite signage with just a subtle "R," this downtown Green Bay chophouse draws plenty of eager diners. They come for the warm, dark atmosphere, cozy booths, stellar service, homemade breads and spreads and great steaks. It's the kind of place where you linger over a bottle of wine and don't rush through meals. Waitstaff bring baskets of warm white, cracked-wheat and pretzel-style breads to be slathered with whipped butter, cheddar butter and a third one that follows the whims of the chef. (It could be something as nontraditional as sweet cookies-and-cream butter.) Entrees include lamb rib chops, homemade sausage, salmon, steaks and seafood and run $20 to $45 (unless you spring for the $70 surf and turf). Try the tenderloin stuffed with bleu cheese and horseradish, wrapped with smoky bacon and topped with roasted-red-pepper ragout. For dessert, the epic-size slice of red velvet cake ($9) satisfies a table full of sweet tooths and provides a light-hearted conversation piece that leaves you grinning.
