This casual tavern offers affordable, butter-topped burgers on crusty rolls. Try one, and you'll be back for more.


Locals have been satisfying their burger cravings at Kroll's East since 1935.

The restaurant offers other family-friendly choices, like specialty salads, hand-breaded lake perch and chili (made from a 1945 recipe). But, really, Kroll’s East is all about the burger.

The charcoal-grilled patty’s made fresh on the premises from 100 percent black Angus beef. Topped with a pat of Wisconsin butter, ketchup, raw onions and pickles, it comes on a toasted Semmel roll, a perfect crusty, chewy complement to the meat. It arrives hot, wrapped in paper, and when you unwrap it, melted butter flows. Prices are reasonable ($2.45 for the standard sixth-a-pound burger, $3.80 for a quarter-pound.) The standard burger may appear a bit puny but the flavor is fantastic. Plus, you’ll have stomach room for hand-battered onion rings, chili and maybe a chocolate shake.

A hodgepodge exterior hints at three dining spaces inside, with your choice of booths, tables and the bar. Sit down where ever you'd like, and grab a menu. If a server has not already approached, push the button on the wall to alert them.

Servers are friendly, helpful and busy. Open 10:30 a.m.--11 p.m. daily, it is closed on several holidays including July Fourth.
