Midwest Living Review

Stop for a bite to eat or a hot drink at this inviting Cedarburg coffee shop.

It's hard to miss Fiddleheads, with its bright orange sign and awning. And that's a good thing because it makes a great stop for coffee or lunch. The shop is part of a chain of three coffee cafes in the northern suburbs of Milwaukee. The menu features a variety of coffee and specialty drinks (lattes, mochas, steamers and chais), plus iced drinks, coffee shakes, Italian sodas and fruit smoothies. Seasonal drinks are always on the menu, like fall's Harvest Chai. Food falls into the breakfast/snack (yogurt, bagels, muffins, scones, cookies and other baked goods) and lunch categories (gourmet sandwiches; $7.25). The French Turkey, for example, serves up herbed Brie, turkey, sprouts and roasted red pepper on country French bread; the Garbonzo the Great is made with homemade hummus, cucumbers, lettuce, tomato, sprouts and onion on whole wheat bread. Sandwiches come with either pasta salad, carrots, potato chips or multigrain tortilla chips. There are a few soups and salads on the menu. You can dine in the cafe in one of the front room's tables or in the back, which features tables and a few fraying upholstered pieces. There's also a deck on the side of the building for alfresco dining, weather permitting.
