It’s easy to spot repeat visitors at The Farm—they sport knowing grins and beeline for the bags of corn feed and baby bottles near the entrance. They know that as soon as the door swings open, baby goats and lambs will surge forward, jumping up to guzzle bottles and playfully prancing across the yard. The baby goats are definitely a highlight, but there are plenty of other things to do and see in the historic farm buildings, pastures, fruit trees and heirloom garden. Horses graze in fields and stalls, donkeys bray and white cows turn big brown eyes toward little visitors. Full-grown goats troll for feed, while benches in the Nature Cabin invite guests to sit and watch chicks hatch.
The Farm was once part of a 77-acre fruit orchard, the largest in Wisconsin back in 1895. Signs throughout the buildings detail crops, livestock, farming history, contemporary farming facts and Ice Age fossils. Close to 50,000 visitors stop by annually between Memorial Day through mid-October.
The Farm is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Memorial Day weekend through mid-October. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children 4 to 12. Kids 3 and younger get in free.
