Midwest Living Review

Trevor Meers
A historic building in the heart of downtown Sturgeon Bay and excellent breakfasts stand out at this inn that’s cozy, if a bit dated.

If you love the small-town spirit, you can’t beat the location of the Inn at Cedar Crossing, housed in a two-story brick building in the heart of Sturgeon Bay. Guests can walk to several eateries (including the inn’s restaurant downstairs), as well as the local theater and waterfront. Upon our arrival, the man at the desk took extra time to help us find things to do that evening and over the weekend. The inn features nine guest rooms, plus a lounge/library area upstairs. Our room was comfortable, but a bit on the cramped side, and most of the lighting and plumbing fixtures seemed like holdovers from the 1980s. The showerhead was of the stinging, high-pressure variety found in locker rooms. We tend to dock lodgings quite a few points for such an oversight because investing 50 bucks could significantly upgrade the guest experience. What we did love, though, was the inn’s breakfast, served in a high-ceilinged dining room downstairs. The service was attentive and the menu loaded with baked goodies like cherry muffins.
