Midwest Living Review

This remote Wisconsin B&B blends old English decor with farm-fresh meals.

The Brambleberry Bed and Breakfast seems perfect for three types of tourists—Anglophiles, organic foodies and those looking to get lost in Wisconsin's bluff country. Jane Austen fans should appreciate the traditional English country manor decor, inspired by the innkeepers' Scottish heritage and travels through Britain. Foodies will love the seasonal farm-fresh ingredients that find their way to the table at meal times, including vegetables and fruits straight from the garden, eggs from the hen house, and bacon and ham from the farmyard pigs.

Brambleberry is one of the few Wisconsin B&Bs offering a full assortment of meals. Plated breakfasts are included in the price of rooms ($99 to $169, Friday through Sunday only). Sandwiches, salads and pizzas ($10-$16) can be ordered anytime; and five-course harvest dinners ($25-$35) are held from July through October, when almost everything served comes straight from the farm.

The inn is located at the end of a country road, nestled amid bluffs in idyllic rural bicycling country. Guests won't see or hear any car traffic during their stays, though they may be serenaded in the evening by whippoorwills calling from the oak woods.
