Midwest Living Review
From the curlicue lettering on the sidewalk sign to the fluffy cupcakes inside the small glass case, every detail of Bloom Bake Shop in suburban Middleton says "sugar and spice and all that's nice." Sunlight pours through windows of the tiny corner business, and jars of colorful sprinkles line up behind the register. Besides a few cookies in glass jars, the specialties here are cupcakes and whoopie pies in an ever-changing variety of flavors. Cupcake flavors include Be Local (featuring fresh Wisconsin carrots and cream cheese icing), Be Campy (decked out with s'more ingredients) and Be Refreshed (with lemon icing). The whoopie pies are huge, soft and rich; don't miss the Be Elvis, with banana-chip cakes sandwiching luscious peanut butter frosting. As much as possible, the recipes use fair-trade, organic and locally sourced ingredients. There are a couple small tables for eating in; most treats cost $3.
