Midwest Living Review

You may think caramel apples aren't your thing, until you taste one of Amy's.

Not a caramel apple fan? You will be once you bite into one from Amy's Candy Kitchen. Just looking at the apples makes you want to grab one. They're huge, perfectly shaped and covered in amazing things, like caramel, Oreo chunks and Belgian milk chocolate. Or caramel, pecans and Belgian dark chocolate. Or peppermint, caramel and Belgian white chocolate. You get the picture. The apples are pricey—you can easily pay $8 or $10 for one—but most people slice them up and share because they're so big and there's so much candy on each one. In addition, Amy's sells a variety of traditional candy, including homemade fudge and truffles, plus related items like trail mix and nuts. During the holidays, themed candies are available. If you stop in at the right time, you might be able to see fudge or caramels being made behind the counter, with help from a ceiling-mounted mirror. If you do buy an apple here, you probably won't get out the door without starting to nibble at it. Amy's knows this, so the shop has a stash of hand wipe packets at the door. PS: The pecan turtle is the shop's best-seller.
