Midwest Living Review

Dan Dlay
This popular recreational hotspot is one of the main attractions that draw visitors to Coteau des Prairies.

Just a few miles up State-20 from Watertown, Lake Kampeska is one of the many scenic bodies of water South Dakota’s Coteau des Prairies region is renowned for. The water runs clear and the lake bottom is nicely lined with sand and gravel.

Two main parks are located on Lake Kampeska. On the eastern shore, Stokes-Thomas City Park features volleyball courts, a long swimming beach and 72 campsites. To the south, Sandy Shore State Park caters to campers and bicyclists . Excellent year-round fishing opportunities lure anglers hoping for big catches of walleye, perch and bass.
