Midwest Living Review

Ask for a "green" room and prepare for a healthy environment with comfortable beds and locally inspired decor.

In 2012, an ecofriendly renovation began turning the hotel formerly known as the Radisson into the Adoba. So far, the results are impressive. During our summer 2012 visit, rooms on the eighth floor of this nine-story, 177-room property had gotten the green treatment, with PVC-free digitally printable wall covering called Terralon lining one wall and depicting scenes of Mount Rushmore and the Badlands, while reclaimed wood covers other walls. A wood bench stands beside the window and an upholstered chair combines leather "frame" with cushions wrapped in Native American blankets.

Carpet tiles are made from recycled fibers, and recycled plastic bottles make up the stuffing for the organic duvet cover topping a deliciously comfortable wool mattress. And that brilliant red bathroom countertop? It's made from recycled quartz. Large pump bottles of organic liquid soap, shampoo and conditioner line the shower wall.

Of course, the guest rooms offer the amenities travelers have come to expect, including a coffeemaker, small refrigerator and free Wi-Fi. The HVAC system was a bit noisy at times, but noise from other rooms didn't seem excessive. We tried sandwiches and sweet potato fries in the hotel's Enigma Restauran; all of it tasted fresh and looked beautiful.

When its green renovation is complete, this hotel should be a showpiece and an environmental inspiration. Green Dreams Rooms start at $129, which seems reasonable to us.
