Midwest Living Review
This is the best place to get a refresher course on Laura Ingalls' childhood and to find out more about her beloved American family while walking in their footsteps. This guided tour, which lasts an hour to 90 minutes, includes the Surveyors' House, De Smet's first school, and a chance to see Ma and Pa Ingalls' last home where they lived with Mary. Visitors are welcome to roam the home after the tour and linger over an intriguing exhibit on Laura's daughter, Rose Wilder, who was covering the Vietnam war as a journalist in her 80s. There's also a great gift shop and a free Discover Laura Learning Center across the street where kids can practice reading Braille, put on prairie attire and try a manual sewing machine.
