Midwest Living Review

Enjoy a well-appointed hotel in the heart of Deadwood's historic gambling district.

If you choose to stay in Deadwood during your Black Hills visit, you have to accept certain realities. It will be loud most of the night on the weekends. You'll have the digital sounds of slot machines stuck in your head for a week afterward. And you'll probably check into your hotel room at the cage where gamblers redeem their chips. For most visitors, those aren't problems. You come to Deadwood because you're ready to gamble and party, after all. But even if you're getting your Vegas on, it's a treat to escape to a well-appointed room away from the frenzy, and the Celebrity Hotel offers just that. Once you wind your way through the displays of Hollywood costumes and famous cars (don't miss James Bond's Aston Martin and a real Love Bug), you'll head upstairs to upscale rooms in excellent condition. Expect heated bathroom floors and towel bars, quality linens and furniture, and, in some suites, gas fireplaces and electric curtains you can close from your bed. The Continental breakfast is served at a bar next to blackjack tables still covered for the night, but in your room, the ambience remains blissfully casino-free. After our first visit, the Celebrity became one of our go-to hotels in Deadwood.
