Midwest Living Review
Even without the connected Custer County Candy Company luring shoppers in with chocolates, this intersection would be a busy place thanks to A Walk in the Woods. Both attractive and artsy—especially with the horse sculpture out front—this combo store-gallery destination is an easy place to spend some time browsing.
We advise starting in the gallery, where local artists sell beautiful prints of Black Hills scenery, hand-carved pine trees, jewelry and paintings. The biggest portion of the business is the gifts and home decor section, heavy on colorful glass bowls and pottery that catches the light from the windows. Mirrors, prints, textiles, dishes and candles reflect seasonal colors and a distinctly Dakota style. Upstairs, classy upscale women's shirts, skirts and accessories tempt shoppers with vibrant colors and high-quality materials. The sweater selection is particularly enticing with rich hues and textures, but be aware—most of the inventory carries higher-than-average price tags.
