Midwest Living Review
The Living Word Outdoor Drama is heavily promoted as a major tourist attraction on road signs throughout Cambridge, Ohio, area. Except that the brown attraction signs simply refer to it as "outdoor amphitheater." This hillside amphitheater was created just for this yearly staging of the Passion play -- the reenactment of Christ's crucifixion. The set, a 400-foot panoramic re-creation of Jerusalem, is more Broadway than summer stock and is completely unexpected in this hilly outdoor setting! There is nothing unexpected about the actual play; it's strictly a live reenactment of the biblical text. But visitors are invited and even encouraged to join the cast as an extra in the play. Interested guests shouldn't be intimidated to participate, most of the cast is made up of community volunteers -- only the actor playing Jesus is a professional. Not surprisingly, this is a family-friendly, fairly casual event. There's never a bad time to get up and take a walk around the amphitheater or make a visit to the well-stocked concession stand. Check the website for show dates and times; admission charged.
