No matter what level of thrills you seek, Kings Island amusement park delivers -- at a price.

Entering Kings Island is sure to make you feel like a kid again. (Well, after you empty your wallet at the admission gate, anyway.) If you have younger kids, you'll mostly likely head to Planet Snoopy -- formerly known as Nickelodeon Universe. The 15 rides are great, with some coasters thrilling enough for adults. We thought changing to the Peanuts theme was a mistake, though; most of the kids we saw on our visit showed very little interest in the nostalgic characters. And you'll also want to check out Dinosaurs Alive!, a very cool separate-admission area that opened in 2011 with animatronic dinos that move and roar when visitors trip off the sensors. The blue soft-serve ice cream sold at Kings Island is always a hit, as is a ride on the log flume. (Placing your heaviest passenger in the front is a sure way to get soaked.) Planet Snoopy's long daytime lines disappear after 8 p.m., so it's a nice place to end the night before the 10 p.m. fireworks. Adult and big-kid thrill seekers love The Beast, at 7,400 feet it's said to be the longest wooden roller coaster in the world. The more recently added Diamondback is said to be the tallest steel coaster, measuring 230 feet and hitting 80 mph. Many kids and adult medium-thrill seekers also enjoy the classic, midway-style rides like the Scrambler and the Monster. The water park, Boomerang Bay, offers 15 acres of cooling amusements for no extra fee. Bring plenty of extra money for pricey locker rentals and concession food. A family of four can easily spend more than $40 just on a pizza dinner. Ticket prices vary, but there's a discount for advanced purchases online. Open from April to October.
