Midwest Living Review
Anything that involves free taste-testing is bound to be a hit -- especially when the tasting involves cheese. Guggisberg Cheese, which is a combination cheese factory and retail shop, attracts thousands of tourists in Amish Country each year. The tall clock tower and Alpine-themed building are hard to pass up, but the real draw is what's inside. Guggisberg is the original home of baby Swiss cheese and is one of the largest Swiss cheese manufacturers in the nation. Best-selling Guggisberg cheeses also includes Amish butter cheese and several varieties of cheddar cheese, all of which customers can sample and purchase. The cheese is mainly made of milk from local Amish farmers, who drive their horse-drawn wagons to the factory each morning. Visitors who arrive before noon can watch the cheese being made through a viewing window. The Swiss theme carries over to additional merchandise in the shop, such as cuckoo clocks, cowbells and Swiss chocolates, plus you'll find plenty of snacks to go with your cheese -- crackers, pretzels, mustards, sausages, bologna, jams, jellies and candies.
