Midwest Living Review
Situated in one of Dayton's repurposed white enamel diners, Smokin BBQ offers little in the way of atmosphere and limited seating. The focus here is on good, fast barbecued meat, and owner Jim Teal delivers. Teal lived in Austin, Texas, for 26 years and spent the time perfecting his Southern-style barbecue and smoking skills. Now Daytonians are the beneficiaries of that knowledge. Have a sweet tea and try the pulled pork sandwich, which overflows its soft white-bread bun with sweet, tender meat, or the smoked hamburgers, laced with just the right amount of smoky flavor. Sides such as greens and mac and cheese are average (although the house-made chips are satisfyingly thick and crunchy); it's the meat that makes a trip here mouthwatering.
