Midwest Living Review

Sarah Routh
With Wi-Fi and board games, the family-friendly tasting room at Cleveland’s newest small batch brewery feels more like a community rec room than a bar.

The BottleHouse is a modern-day biergarten (albeit indoors) where patrons bring their own food but order drinks on-site. Picnic tables, Wi-Fi, a stack of classic board games and an open-mic stage encourage guests to eat, drink and linger.

The beverage menu focuses on craft beer, including housemade brews and big-name microbrews. A sampler of six 5-ounce pours ($13) is a good way to try the BottleHouse beers; the Solstice Pale Ale makes an especially good warm-weather sipper. High-end whiskies, mead and root beer round out the drink options.

Foodwise, there’s a self-serve popcorn machine, a (sometimes unmanned) pierogi stand in the corner and a window ledge full of take-out menus. Local food trucks frequent the parking lot on weekends, and the most popular house dessert is the adults-only creamy milk stout float ($8.50).

A family-friendly establishment, the BottleHouse sometimes blurs the line between welcoming all ages and becoming overrun with toddlers. Those seeking a more grown-up night out might want to time their visits after 9 p.m.
