Midwest Living Review

Kendra L. Williams
Fans of this upscale brand won't be disappointed in this Fountain Square location, where professional staff, "heavenly" beds, a great pool and Ingredients cafe round out a quiet stay.

We've stayed at many Westin properties throughout the Midwest, and we've never been disappointed in the guest rooms, the amenities or the staff. Same story here on Fountain Square, and our Christmastime visit benefitted from the beautiful sheen of a fresh snowfall. Horse-drawn carriages decked in twinkle lights clip-clop past the building, and ice-skaters twirled on the Fountain Square rink across the street from the property. Guests can easily walk to most of Cincinnati's biggest attractions, including Paul Brown Stadium, the Underground Railroad Freedom Center, the Banks and Great American Ballpark. A $1 trolley that stops out front takes patrons across the river and into Kentucky, where Newport on the Levee awaits, a great mix of food and entertainment venues.

Doormen in long wool coats greet patrons who want to valet park their car in the underground garage (for $28/night; you can self-park for less). A second-floor lobby looks out over an airy atrium, and elevators that require key cards to access guest rooms lead to the 456 renovated rooms on 12 floors. Our two-double room overlooked Fountain Square, and all-white linens drape the Heavenly Beds. Our traditional room included a 37-inch LCD TV, a standard-size bath with granite counters, plus ample work space for those on business (from $129). We took a dip in the warm pool on the 17th floor and felt our cares melt away in the adjacent whirlpool; both are located on the same floor as the open-24-hours Westin Workout room. Like other Westin properties, this one also offers WestinWorkout guest rooms that have treadmill and Pilates equipment (from $169). We also loved having an on-site concierge to answer our questions and to store our luggage and purchases while we explored the city after checkout. We love that this property works for business travelers but still feels special for people on a leisure trip.
