Midwest Living Review

Ann Arbor Miller
Jamestown Reservoir is a delightful, affordable destination for campers and outdoor enthusiasts.

A true North Dakota treasure, Jamestown Reservoir offers an impressive array of family-friendly outdoor activities. All told, the property features 680 acres of rolling prairie, 45 miles of shoreline, a 27-hole disc golf course (on an island no less), seven boat ramps, four volleyball courts, 2 miles of paved trails, a couple of handicapped-accessible fishing docks and a stocked fishing pond.

With two clean, well-kept campgrounds (Pelican Point Landing on the west side, Lakeside Marina and Campground on the east), the reservoir has become an annual gathering spot for extended families from around the region. Both campgrounds are reasonably priced: $10 for tents, $20 for RVs and $45 for basic camper cabins. Book early in the season because weekends fill quickly.

An abundance of shade trees, a swimming beach and a playground make Lakeside Marina the better option for tent campers and families with young kids. An assortment of boats and water toys are available for rent (pontoons go for $105 for four hours including fuel; peddle boats, canoes and hydra bikes cost $5 per half hour). Pelican Point is more isolated and has two dozen full hookup sites for RVs. Credit cards are not accepted for concessions, but there is an ATM machine in the office.
