Midwest Living Review
The Enchanted Castle opened its doors in May 2012. Apparently, word of the hotel opening in the rural community of Regent hadn't gotten out yet, as there were no other guests checked into the 24-room hotel during our one-night stay. When the front desk clerk said he was leaving at 11 pm, he asked if we wanted a key to the hotel door, as there would be no staff onsite and we would be locked in the hotel all night. It's an odd sensation, knowing you are the only guests at the hotel, and knowing you are locked in with just an emergency phone number at the front desk. However, that's not to say that the place doesn't have its good qualities. The hotel is actually the town's old high school, renovated into its current form. The fake castle wall exterior leaves much to be desired, but the rooms are large with kitchenettes and seating area separate from the sleeping area. The hotel still has the high school gymnasium, complete with basketball hoops and high school mascots on the walls. The locker room has been converted into a hot tub area, and the breakfast room greets guests in the morning with cereal, fruit, rolls, coffee and juice. Rates start at $90/night.
