Visitors can tour this towering Catholic church on the prairie then buy wine and other products made on-site by monks and nuns.

A North Dakota landmark along Interstate-94, Assumption Abbey is a majestic century-old Catholic Church with five-story twin towers piercing the prairie sky. The church is an active home for Benedictine monks who have become well-known vintners in the area by making and selling  wines as well as pottery, honey and other products from an on-site gift shop and cellar.

If you knit, swing by Sacred Heart monastery just down the road. It's where Benedictine nuns raise alpaca llamas and spin the wool into yarn. Both the yarn and hand-knit items like scarves and coin purses are available for sale to the public. Both facilities are available for tours.
