Midwest Living Review
For more than 40 years, this masculine, cowboy ranch-theme eatery has operated as one of Omaha’s premiere steak houses, serving a variety of Certified Angus Beef cuts like filets, strips and prime rib. A local institution, The Drover’s claim to fame is its famous whiskey marinade, a $1 add-on option for any steak. Because the beef only marinates for about 15 minutes, the whiskey isn’t overpowering; it just enhances the overall quality of the meat. All steaks are grilled to order over an open flame, resulting in a crunchy charred exterior and a juicy interior. (Expect an 8-oounce filet to set you back $38.95, a 14-oounce ribeye $37.95).
The menu lists a few fish and chicken choices to the tune of $18.95 to $30.95, plus some market-price seafood. Don’t be surprised if the quality of these entrees doesn’t quite measure up to the steaks though. All entrees are served with a salad bar or soup option and choice of baked potato, fries, rice or vegetable.
The Drover does have a few drawbacks, namely its somewhat limited menu, steep prices for what you get and dimly lit atmosphere.
