Historic Haymarket District

The Historic Haymarket is Lincoln's main entertainment district. Tucked into a cluster of renovated brick warehouses on the western edge of downtown Lincoln, the development is adjacent to the University of Nebraska and was one of the nation's first such revitalized districts. Like most entertainment districts, the Haymarket features restaurants (about a dozen), bars, boutiques, coffee shops and bookstores, plus apartments on the buildings' upper floors. One of the district's more impressive buildings is Lincoln Station, a railroad depot on the Haymarket's west end that today also houses a restaurant and the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau. Because of its proximity to the University of Nebraska, the Haymarket can get quite crowded, especially before and after Husker football games and, to a lesser extent, Husker and Saltdog baseball games. (The Saltdogs are a member of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball; both teams play at Haymarket Park, north of the Haymarket and accessible by an architecturally impressive pedestrian bridge.) Even when there are crowds, though, there's generally ample parking throughout the Haymarket on its brick streets and in nearby lots.
