Midwest Living Review
Trailhead Brewing Company is one of (if not THE) most popular restaurant on St. Charles' historic Main Street. On busy weekends, you'll wait as long as an hour for a table in the massive two-story restaurant-brewery. Luckily, it's not an unpleasant place to kill time. Brick walls, exposed beams and a few funky decorating touches (like a canoe that hearkens to Lewis and Clark), create a warm yet upscale atmosphere. During happy hour (when appetizers are half-price), crowds gather in a third-floor lofted bar space, as well around the busy second-floor bar. The brews on tap are good; the seasonal pumpkin is mildly spicy, and the red has nice body. But the food is just average. Onion rings are huge but offer more visual drama than real flavor. And the nachos taste thrown together, with many chips left naked and cheeseless under a pile of canned jalapenos. Trailhead Brewing Company's vibe is refreshingly energetic on St. Charles' quiet Main Street, and the beer is nice; just don't expect to go home singing about the food.
