Midwest Living Review

Tina King
The tasteful and comfortable Murphy House provides a nice way to end the day after exploring Weston's cute shops and restaurants.

Don't be surprised while staying at this 1912 Victorian bed-and-breakfast if tourists walk up just to take photos of the tasteful home and its shade garden. It's that pretty. Owner Mary Jo Heidrick knows how to decorate, how to garden and how to make her guests feel welcome.

The interior is a mix of antique furniture and pretty accessories in the common areas and the two second-floor guest rooms, each with a private bath. Bedding is comfy; pillows are ample; and reading material is varied to make stays as enjoyable as possible. It's definitely good value at $100 per night. A hearty full breakfast along the lines of French toast, bacon and fresh fruit is included for those who can wait until 9:30 a.m. service, perfect timing because the town's shops open at 10 a.m. The innkeeper provides fresh fruit and muffins for those who need an earlier start.

The Murphy House isn't on the main drag, but it's within easy walking distance. Mary Jo is also well-versed on the best places to go and intuitively offers as little or as much advice as you like. Kids under age 12 and pets are prohibited, but Chester and Riley, the owner's two well-behaved cocker spaniels are on hand to provide dog companionship. For special occasions, guests can even request Champagne, cake or flowers for their room.
