Midwest Living Review

The Moonrise Hotel, a hip, retro boutique hotel, is a great choice if you're spending the night in the Delmar Loop district.

From the rotating orb on the roof to the photos from space on the walls to the circle motif on the carpet, the Moonrise Hotel takes its retro lunar theme seriously -- and that makes it seriously cool. It's a must if you're looking for a place to stay after catching a concert at The Pageant or Blueberry Hill. Open since spring 2009, this seven-story, 120-room boutique inn puts a contemporary twist on mid-20th century dcor. They lovingly mix the furniture of Charles Eames (a St. Louis native), Andy Warhol-style paintings, earth-tone colors and green bamboo walls to produce an effect that's both unique and inviting. Hotel amenities are strictly 21st century. Spacious rooms feature 32-inch plasma TVs, iPod docking stations and glass-encased showers with rain showerheads and are stylishly outfitted, with more moon art and sleek furnishings. The Eclipse restaurant offers upscale dining in an atmosphere that pays homage to Buck Rogers and 1950s robots. And if you're looking for a view of the moon, both manmade and the real deal, have a drink at the Moonrise Rooftop Terrace. There's plenty of free parking to the rear of the building, or opt for valet service.
