Midwest Living Review

Lisa Meyers McClintick
One of the trio of jazz and blues venues along this stretch of Broadway, this joint serves up good tunes along with Cajun and creole cooking.

A good jazz and blues joint should be a bit of a dive, right? That's Broadway Oyster Bar, with a sign on the door that reads "Leave Your Attitude At Home." That about says it all. Broadway Oyster Bar sits along a stretch of Broadway featuring three music venues side by side. It's a bit small but has an outdoor patio where listening to the tunes is all the sweeter on a balmy summer night. The bands keep playing well past midnight. The kitchen is far from a dive, serving up an array of Southern specialties. Start out with oysters on the half shell or an order of fried alligator, then settle into a steaming hot dish of jambalaya, gumbo, or crawfish etoufee or maybe a heaping gulf-oyster grinder sandwich. There is a cover charge.
