Midwest Living Review

Diana Lambdin Meyer
Nearly all of the people who stay at this cheap, clean retro motel are on Route 66 journeys.

Opened in 1946, this mom-and-pop operation, a motor court really, survives from the heyday of travel along the Mother Road. The rooms are clean and fresh, yet the style and decor dates to its establishment. All of the rooms have pictures from various places along Route 66 on the walls. Some rooms are dedicated to states along the route, others to other motor courts that no longer exist. One room is dedicated to bridges. You'll find paneled walls and window units for air-conditioning but recently updated linens on the beds. The rooms offer cable TV, phones and Wi-Fi. But the bathrooms are original in size and complete with pastel-color tile. Bring your hair dryer and coffee pot. The only amenity here is the wall-mounted bottle opener by Coca Cola, another nod to the era. The office is kind of cute with a collection of antique toy trucks and cars. A gift shop has lots of Route 66 memorabilia for sale, and all proceeds benefit the Route 66 Museum in Lebanon. From $47.
