Midwest Living Review
At Planters Seed and Spice Company, experience modern-day shopping while enjoying a glimpse in the past. The 80-year-old emporium once catered to farmers. Today, the vast space features a variety of coffees and teas, pickling and other bulk spices, garden seeds, birdbaths and holiday dcor. Those with a green thumb will want to check out endless rows of seed selections along with plastic and ceramic pottery for container plants. You'll see an entire room dedicated to seed spreaders, Fertilome, Cocomoss, lawn food, hoses, hose-repair kits, sprinklers, sprayers and other garden helpers. Kids and the young at heart will love the penny candy. For a real eye-opener, try the "professional flavors" that are three to four times stronger than extract and include horehound, licorice and Washington Cherry. Floor surfaces vary from room to room, so watch your step while admiring merchandise shelved right up to the ceilings, including some with the original painted tin. You could spend a couple of hours taking in all this store has to offer.
