Midwest Living Review
This trendy, industrial-vibe coffeehouse is an ideal perch for people-watching from the sidelines of the always-bustling City Market, near downtown Kansas City. Independently owned and operated since 1995, the City Market Coffee House does all of its own roasting and brewing. If you can't find anything to your liking on the extensive coffee menu, baristas will make your custom drink to order. The coffeehouse also offers baked goods (not made on-site) such as cookies, biscotti, cupcakes, brownies, bars, cheesecake, and carrot cake ($2-$3), and oversized grilled paninis served with chips ($4.50). There is limited seating downstairs (only two booths and a handful of tables), but a spiral staircase at the center leads to additional seating upstairs. The garage door on the shop's far side is sprung wide open on nice days to usher in outside air, but the main entrance is directly off a roofed corridor along the perimeter of the City Market. This coffee shop is Wi-Fi enabled and has one house computer for customer use. Watch out for Saturdays, when the line often stretches out the door.
