Midwest Living Review

Kendra L. Williams
New ownership and a renovation completed in late 2009 has freshened up this water park-hotel across from Kaufmann Stadium.

We can't help after staying in a handful of water park resorts over the past couple of months to compare one to the other. This experience reminds us in many ways of a Great Wolf Lodge. And in some good ways, it's different. Though it does have a water park attached, and attracts lots of families because of it, the water park is located in an adjacent building so the hotel is not a place where you'll see kids running through the lobby in wet swimsuits. A new gas fireplace and dozens of dark brown leather easy chairs make the lobby feel classy and chic. The rooms are updated, with huge flat-screen TVs and soft beds. We were disappointed that these small rooms either come with one king or two double beds rather than two queens, but the rates certainly are reasonable, starting at $79 a night. Water park passes are extra, $15 a day ($25 a day on holidays). So while this seems like it's a lot cheaper than Great Wolf, by the time you add you add water park passes for a family of four, you're getting closer to Great Wolf prices. One perk: Kids younger than 12 dine free at the on-site restaurant for every meal with a paying adult, cutting meal tabs in half, and we found the food to be simple but tasty (burgers, sandwiches, quesadillas, for the most part). The staff in the hotel, the water park and the restaurant all were friendly and helpful, and the location near Kaufmann Stadium is ideal for sports fans. We'd definitely go back for another stay.
