LulaBelle's Restaurant and B&B

It's possible that we visited LulaBelle's on a very, very bad night, but from our experience, this place is a disaster. Located in a building that once housed a brothel, it was lit after dark by red bulbs that made it difficult to negotiate the steps and entry. Maybe that was a veiled warning. On the Friday night we visited, the place was packed, which mystifies us. Granted, our meals started out OK with the peel and eat shrimp, salads and warm loaf of bread that come with each entree, but things went downhill from there. The chicken Alfredo was merely a fried chicken breast topped with lousy tomato sauce and melted cheese. The stuffed pork chop was inedible, with the meat only half-done and swimming in grease. The salty, right-out-of-a-box stuffing came garnished with canned apples. Even the apple pie dessert was only so-so; it was served with part of the crust missing and the filling was tasteless. The B&B rooms followed that tasteless theme. They're christened with toe-curling names like Purple Passion and Angel of Delight and outfitted with tacky, cheap furnishings. Foam ear plugs await on each bedside table; no, it's not what you think. LulaBelle's is right by the train tracks, which we understand, but there's a more tactful way to handle the proximity of passing trains. The ridiculous heart-shape tub, flaking paint and water leak marks on the ceiling were more than enough to make us head for the door. Room rates run from $60$90 per night.
