Sven's Kafe & Gallery

Located in Columbia's on-the-rise arts neighborhood, the District, this cozy little spot doesn't have a large menu--it's mostly Scandinavian-style baked goods--but is an increasingly popular place to grab a cup of joe and read the newspaper. Probably the coolest features at Sven's are the windows that look into the businesses next door--a hair salon and, much more interestingly, a dance studio. They're actually one-way glass with mirrors on the other side, so don't be surprised to see a ballerina apparently making eye contact--she's probably just checking her hair. That's perhaps the best art you'll see here, because even though there are works for sale on the caf's walls, calling Sven's a gallery is a bit of a stretch--you may well find the offerings somewhat underwhelming.
