Midwest Living Review
Even if you're not biking along the Katy Trail (which starts here in St. Charles), it's worth stopping in this delightful bike repair shop and cafe in St. Charles' Frenchtown district. Mosaic-topped tables, vibrant ceramic mugs and potted plants give the 2nd Street Bike Stop Cafe an earthy, almost ethnic vibe, but the food actually runs more mainstream (in a good way). The menu features fresh salads, sandwiches, soups and a full lineup of coffee drinks. The popular walnut and Gorgonzola salad has an herby balsamic vinaigrette and a generous pile of fresh greens. (We would have liked the nuts toasted, but that's getting pretty picky!) Soups change regularly; the tomato and red pepper is excellent. You can also buy coffee by the pound or bike-related T-shirts. The women at the counter offer friendly recommendations and seem genuinely pleased that visitors have found their little corner of the world -- luckily, the feeling is mutual.
