Midwest Living Review
These condos feel very "up north," nestled near Giant's Ridge ski and golf resort, surrounded by rugged forest and situated along a root-beer brown lake. Wynne Lake also connects to Lake Sabin, each of them close to 300 acres in size and home to walleye, northerns, sunfish and perch. You can rent boats for fishing, canoes and kayaks for paddling, take a dip in the pool or walk lighted lakeside trails. Rooms feature modern log decor, plus in-room fireplaces and whirlpool bathtubs in some of the units, with several big enough to sleep 12 guests. They seem best suited for families with little kids or for travelers visiting during the summer (with older kids and lots of clunky ski equipment, we prefer to stay closer to the slopes). You'll get the best deals midweek, especially in winter, which is high season with 35 ski runs and 70 kilometers of Nordic trails at Giant's Ridge Resort. Studios (sleep 2) start at $78. Four-bedroom deluxe villas (sleep 12) start at $345. Summer visitors are close to two 18-hole golf courses, one of Minnesota's more challenging disc golf courses, tennis courts and basketball courts. Bike rentals also are available.
